Silverpoint Solutions For Web 2.0
Web 2.0 generally means behind-the-scenes connectivity that leverages technology and data from other systems to provide website visitors with better access to more information. Silverpoint offers many ways for its clients to take advantage of the latest in web technologies, with solutions tailored to the needs of schools.
-
Sharing Calendars
iCalendar Integration - With Silverpoint’s iCalendar application, site visitors can both download and subscribe to school calendar information into their desktop, online calendar, or Blackberry/PDA. Find out more about SchoolSuite Calendars , and see iCalendars in action on the Trinity School website.
Microsoft Exchange Integration - Schools that manage their calendars using Microsoft Outlook and Exchange might think they need to manage multiple sets of calendars – Outlook calendars, which include everything happening at the school, and website calendars, which may contain some or all events. Silverpoint’s Exchange Integration allows the website to pull data directly from Exchange, eliminating the need to enter an event again on the web calendar. RSS feeds
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts.
Content that is enabled by SchoolSuite’s RSS functionality can subscribed to by users, so that content is automatically delivered to constituents who have requested it. RSS feeds can be enabled for some or all news areas. Find out more about SchoolSuite News. and see how St. Paul's School for Girls uses RSS feeds on their athletics page.
-
Podcasting
“Podcasting” gives site managers the ability to add RSS feeds to video. Website visitors can subscribe to a particular type of content (a distinguished lecture series, for example), then have that content automatically delivered to their listening or viewing device of choice, whether it be their personal computer or portable audio/video device such as Apple’s iPod.
Silverpoint websites also allow site visitors to experience audio and video content directly on the website on specially designed pages with audio or video players customized to match the look and feel of the site. Click here to see an example of school podcasting.
-
Blogs
A blog is a frequently updated journal, maintained online. Most blogs are displayed chronologically, and archives are preserved so that users can refer to older postings. Blogs generally are equipped with RSS feeds so that subscribers can be automatically provided with the latest entry. A blog can be maintained by a Head of School or they can be contained within password protected areas to allow students, parents and teachers participate in a related discussion.

Google Maps Integration
Google maps can be integrated into your site in more ways than one. In addition to providing road maps and driving directions, Silverpoint has developed creative ways for these maps to have interactive features, such as identifying member schools in an affiliation, or organizing local carpools with links to directory information.
